The Mens September medal is this weekend September 25th./26th. and is the last major event of 2021. The medal is kindly sponsored by Joe Kenna of Fast Floor Screed. The committee would like to thank Joe for his continued support.
The men's Captain's Dinner is taking place at The Hamlet Court Hotel, Johnstown Bridge on Friday Oct. 1st. followed by presentations of prizes for the year. Dinner is at 8.00pm and presentation is at 9.30pm. Tickets for the dinner are available at the office.

Rathcore is a modern parkland… but please ignore the images that have probably just popped into your head. This is a little slice of heaven bounding over strongly rolling terrain in the middle of nowhere (well, a few km from Enfield). Opened in 2004, at a time when ‘big’ was all the rage, Rathcore went the other way and presented golfers with a neatly packaged 6,318 yard par 72 (middle green tees), contained within 130 acres. It’s such a pretty piece of land with natural water features, gorse-drenched hillocks and idyllic green settings. Those water features are enhanced by stone-fronted walls beyond which you will find tempting green sites. Those hillocks embrace two ring forts… and a fairy ring. The holes (designed by Mel Flanagan) match that setting all the way.

There are big, booming tee shots to be hit… and there are just as many that demand real caution. There are four very short par-4s – the 6th and 7th are 317 and 300 yard beauties running side by side - where your Driver is definitely the wrong choice. The two longest par fours both measure 435 yards and are Index 1 and 2. The four par-5s fall between 472 and 532 yards. It is not going to beat you up on length but you will need to tease out some smart thinking, especially on the short par-4s and the doglegs.

Perhaps what sums up Rathcore’s brilliance best is the signature pairing on the par-3 11th and 16th. They face in opposite directions and use the same reed-laced pond. The 11th steals it as it hits from the high hillock with the green jutting out into the water, but the 16th is a touch longer at 178 yards… and far tougher (Index 6).

Statement from GUI and ILGU

 4.45pm Wednesday 21st October 2020

Following intensive engagement over the past 48 hours, we have been informed this afternoon by Sport Ireland that, very regrettably golf clubs must close under the new level 5 restrictions.

Essential course maintenance is permitted to continue under level 5. We have sought clarity on the issue as to whether ranges/practice facilities can remain open for exempted activities. We will update clubs on this as soon as possible.

What a day of golf we had for Captains final day on Sunday at Rathcore. Well done to Eoin McArdle for a wonderful win with a final round of 69.
180 played in the Captains over the two weekends which was the biggest attendance ever for the club. The weather was spectacular and the course was even better - thanks to Andy & Team for working the magic yet again.
We move on to the September medal next weekend kindly sponsored by The Hamlet Court Hotel. www.thehamlet.ie

No doubt there will be two great weekends of golf for this highlight event of the club season. Pat wishes all members the very best of luck and looks forward to seeing you all there.

Due to the latest COVID-19 restrictions it is with regret that we announce the cancellation of the Captains prize events over the next two weekends. Our Captains, Kate & Pat felt that, due to the lockdown implemented for our adjacent counties, and in the best interest of the club and its membership, it was prudent to defer it to a later date. Particularly, this decision is in consideration of those members residing in the counties under the lockdown restrictions currently.
Regular competitions will be held as normal over the coming weekends. Our thoughts are with those members who are restricted from travelling to the club and we hope to see you again there soon when it is safe to do so.
We will look to reschedule the Captains prizes as soon as it is safe to do so subject to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines.
As always, we thank all our members for your understanding and continued support. Stay Safe!
Our Captains, Kathleen Broad & Pat Dunne, invite all members to play in their Captains prize this month.

RATHCORE GOLF CLUB TRANSFORMATION PROJECT

This is just one element of the new face of the club. All the signage and notices at the club house and around the course are also transformed in keeping with the new image.

In line with the statement from the Taoiseach and the clarification from the GUI/ILGU immediately afterwards we have to close the course and practice range to all members with immediate effect. This is if course regrettable but in the  current situation which we now find ourselves we have no alternative.

We hope all our members and their families stay safe and well during this difficult time.
