Towards the end of the 20th century Michael and Austin Lyons of Summerhill, Co. Meath, had a dream to create a golf course on the wonderful Rathcore landscape. And so it was, through their vision, determination and energy, the genesis of the golf course began. The detailed planning, design and construction all came to fruition in 2004 when the golf course officially opened. The expertise of Mel Flanagan was hired to create the wonderful golf course Rathcore is today.

The course contains two ringforts and one motte which date back to Anglo-Norman times and are of immense historical significance. These monuments were incorporated into the golf course fully preserved and with great sensitivity. More information can be found on this in The History of Rathcore section in “About Us”. Over the years, and through the careful and committed management of the Head Greenkeeper Andy Christie, the golf course has gained a deserved reputation as one of the finest in Leinster.
